Gandhiji had rightly said that the soul of India lies in the villages. A lot has been talked about this soul of India. To understand the villages in more precise manner the students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management have visited villages in the vicinity of Delhi. Engulfed in the hustle of today’s urban life we have lost sight of the real Bharat. In an attempt to unveil the ground reality of our villages, LBSIM, New Delhi, has embarked an initiative “Knowing the real Bharat”.
In this initiative focus is on around 20 villages which include Kair, Mundela khurd, Mundela kalan, Baqargarh, Tajpur kalan, Akabar Pur Majra , Hiranki, Daryapur kalan, Nangal Thakran, Auchandi, Bankner, Lampur, Ghogha, Hareoli, Isa Pur, Darya Pur Khurd, Sarangpur nad Bazid Pur Thakran.
Villages have been divided in 5 clusters. Each cluster has four villages.
A team of 3 students along with few faculty members made a visit of each cluster and enquired about the basic necessities of life like water supply, electricity and sanitation. With the vision of bringing improvements to the facility present at these villages, LBSIM has started a Live Project which will be conducted over a duration of 12-18 months.
While interacting with village residents, teams tried to identify the problems being faced by them and also tried to infer the coordination between the villages and Government initiatives.
Most of the villages faced the problem of electricity, water, roads, irrigation facility, communication facilities and sanitation. Eg : In some of the villages a water tanker is made available on interval of 3-4 days which causes a lot of scarcity . Some villages also faced the challenge of acidic water. The standard of education was also not satisfactory. Though at some villages the “Pradhans” have taken initiative to check this situation and they are being instrumental in increasing the standard of education at villages. The health and sanitation facilities are also lacking and the rain water stagnation is causing disease. Our team also found out that village residents lack awareness on various initiatives taken by the government like MNREGS, Agriculture loans, Cattle and Crop- Insurance . Further, due to the absence of banks in vicinity, farmers find a lot of difficulty in applying for loans. Our students , explained the village residents about banking, loans etc. Team also found out that at some village, various co-operative societies were present which helped farmers a lot.
“Success comes to those who work,” and with this motto LBSIM students will work on this compulsory Live Project to bring fruitful results to the lives of residents of Real Bharat
